Overview

The Classic 4-Day Inca Trail is the most iconic trekking route in Peru and one of the best hikes in the world. This ancient stone-paved trail was built by the Incas more than 500 years ago as part of the vast road system known as the Qhapaq Ñan, connecting important administrative and religious centers of the empire.

Throughout approximately 43 km (26 miles), you will travel through spectacular landscapes that combine Andean mountains, cloud forests, and a great diversity of flora and fauna. Along the way, you will visit impressive and perfectly preserved archaeological sites, many of them inaccessible by other routes.

The highest point of the trek is the famous Warmiwañusca (Dead Woman’s Pass), located at over 4,200 m (13,780 ft) above sea level, offering unforgettable panoramic views.

The journey concludes in a unique way by entering Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), just as the ancient Incas once did.

Due to its high demand and to preserve the trail, access is limited to a restricted number of visitors per day, so booking several months in advance is highly recommended.
